Games Radar sat down with studio head Mark Lamia and talked about making his second CoD game. Here is some of that interview:
Where will we see the most improvement in World at War?
When we started work on the game, we asked ourselves that exact question… and one of the areas we knew we wanted to tackle was co-op. We also put a lot of work into designing the new enemy. This is the first time the franchise has gone into the Pacific theater, and the Imperial Japanese Army was a vastly different enemy than the Germans in the European theater, so we had to design a whole new type of combat and tactics. The Japanese will banzai charge you, ambush you, climb trees to snipe you, and run, crawl, or climb anywhere imaginable to kill you. It’s guerrilla-style warfare, so, we had to give the player more tools to combat them… so, we gave them the flamethrower, an amazingly powerful and devastating weapon to enemies as well as the environment.

Play.tm sat down with Rich Farrelly, creative lead and Noah Heller, senior producer of Call of Duty World at War. They talk about how interactive and destructable is the world, collaboration with Infinity Ward, the multiplayer side of things and much more.
Do you feel pressure from the success of CoD 4?
Well, there’s an incredible amount of pressure of course, but we’re up for it. We’ve had two years to work on this project, this is the first time some of the developers here have had that long to work on a game. We thrive on this kind of competition.
Anyone who’s trying to do their best work, applies their own pressure any way. We know that game is out there. Its awesome. We want to make sure that everyone who plays our game thinks the same thing.

Today a few possible possible boxarts for Call of Duty: World at War leaked. It’s not clear if one of these boxarts will ever make it to the final product, but it’s still a bit early to be picking a boxart. Anyhow, we would certainly like to see one of these packshots as the final boxart!
